Operation: Finish Projects

One Little Word - Brave via Campfire Chic

It’s the time of the year when I hate looking at the calendar. I feel like December 31st is this giant deadline that looms over my shoulder starting October 1st, even if the deadlines don’t really exist.

Maybe it’s the idea of the year coming to an end that makes me think that my projects should be winding down as well? Or maybe I just need that deadline so it finally happens?

Either way, this month’s BRAVE intention is to be brave enough to forgive and as the Campfire Chic mailing list saw yesterday, I’m focusing on forgiving myself this month. I want to forgive myself for not finishing my impossibly long task list, I want to forgive myself for not working on inversions as much as I would like, and I want to forgive myself for having one of those nights where I would much rather go to bed early than crank out more blog posts.

Yesterday’s newsletter got me thinking: Let me pick three projects I could most likely finish/make BIG progress on before the end of the year? And thus, Operation: Finish Projects was born.

That darn quilt - That’s right, it’s still not finished. It is 80% done, it just needs some binding along the edges to finalize it. I hate to admit this, but we started using the quilt without it being done…but it’s chilly and we aren’t using the heater in the living room (the couch is in the way right now). I think this is something I can finish one morning while Alex is out for a run.

One Little Word - While I really do believe the class was a really fantastic way for me to keep my OLW in the front of my mind throughout the year, I didn’t really dig all of the assignments. My plan is to do the assignments that resonate the most with me and to add print versions of the 12 newsletters I sent out this year to the Campfire Chic mailing list. I think those writings really captured my feelings toward BRAVE and the monthly intentions. I also plan on adding some song lyrics, manifestos found online, and maybe another visual project. I’m waiting for the December assignment to go up in the classroom, so I can’t exactly finish this one until next month.

Project Life - I’m woefully behind with this year’s Project Life layouts, but I do have a TON of photos waiting to be organized in the pages. That’ll help, right? I won’t be doing updates to show each spread as I finish them, but I hope to share some specific weeks (ones involving trips or special techniques) once things calm down a bit. This project is a little different because my “year” is March 10, 2013 – March 9, 2014. I would like to be up to week 38 (Thanksgiving week) by the end of the year.

I’m hoping that I won’t have to forgive myself for not catching up/making progress/finishing these darn things. I’m hoping that writing about the projects will motivate me to keep going.

What are you looking to finish by the end of the year?

I am working on finishing, project life, painting my back bedrooms, and my photo a day projects. Most days I lack the motivation to think about my projects!
